New Year, New Website?

2017 is here. Time for new years’ resolutions that are usually broken by mid January or February if you’re feeling extra good that year. How about an easy resolution, why not resolve to update your website?

CONSIDER THE CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE

Websites are your greatest asset.  They are the first interaction between you and the customer so the design and layout have to be right.  A good site that is easy to use, especially when it comes to ecommerce sites, is the difference between a sale and no sale.  If customers find purchasing from your ecommerce site to be complicated and long winded, they will switch sites before the sale has gone through.  You have to ensure it works and if it doesn’t then an overhaul is a must.  Obviously to change your site takes careful management and your time but there are some positives that you should take on board before dismissing the idea.

IS YOUR WEBSITE OUT-DATED?

Depending on when you designed the site originally, graphics and layouts could now be out-dated compared with the message you are trying to get across, particularly if you label yourself as a forward-thinking company.  Customers who are regulars to your site will become bored of the same images, so you will need to keep the graphics fresh and new so they see that you are a changing company that moves with the times.

There are other things to think about too. For example, do you have up to date images that are labelled correctly so when customers with a disability use their reading software on your site, they are getting the full picture? If you don’t have this, you could be alienating clients.

Can you update your site as and when you need to without having the expense of asking the designer?  If not, then you need to change it so you are able to update content as and when it becomes out-dated.  WordPress sites can help simplify all of these issues if you use a good web site designer with experience of WordPress; it offers you, as the business owner control over updates.

In addition to this customers tend to find these sorts of websites easy to use, as they incorporate simple yet vital elements like galleries and menus that help you to lay out the site in a tidy, easy to use fashion.  So many simple elements that all websites should have are already embedded in many content management software offerings such as WordPress that they are fast becoming a favourite with many website designers.

YOUR WEBSITE IS IMPORTANT, WHATEVER THE SIZE OF YOUR BUSINESS

The New Year is the perfect time to take a step back and re-evaluate your website and the growing business around it.  Whether you are a new business with only a few years under your belt or a large multi-national company, refreshing or completely overhauling your website is a must on a regular basis and what better time of the year than at the beginning.

It is all about image.

Your website is your first gateway to new customers and retaining regular ones.  They have to see that you can still offer a great service and make it easier for your customers to do business with you, and this is illustrated well if your website is a good one.

So when you’re getting back into the swing of things in 2017 and more than likely breaking your new years’ resolution, why not think about this:
