Promo Videos – Does Your Website Need One?

According to Dr. James McQuivey of Forrester Research, it will take 1.8 million words to make the same impression in print, as it will for a promotional video. That, I think you’ll agree, is quite a lot of typing and in this digital age, it is no secret that if you want to learn something in a pinch, you go to the nearest computer to find a video to shed some light on the situation.

According to VideoBerwery.com, a whopping 90% of shoppers found it helpful to view a video about a product before actually going out and buying it. Therefore, if you showcase a video about the product they are looking for on your website, there is a better chance of your customer purchasing from you.

However, with any business, your website design needs to be good enough to host a video that will really make an impression. There’s no point in having a video tucked away on a page deep within your website. If you’re going to go with video, it needs to be right there on your home page, for all to see.

Creating a video that has the customer in mind, entices the user experience and uses keyword strategies to get a clear message across, can really give your website an extra added dimension. So, how do you come up with a concept, if you’re going to run with a promo video?

HAVE THE CUSTOMER IN MIND

When you create a video, even if you are trying to be professional, you must also be entertaining. In this fast-paced world, if the customer is not interested in the content, then they are going to click off of your video, and therefore your website and possibly never return. Therefore, it is your job as the producer of the video to make something memorable for customers to both learn and enjoy watching.

If you’re not sure you can do this, then either hire the professionals or perhaps leave a promo video for another time, and concentrate on having a website design that is both welcoming and professional. You can always add a video later, once you’ve done a little research and brainstorming.

Quick tip for promo video success: No matter what, your video should send a message to the customer, but that message should not be screaming, “buy my product… please!!” Tell them about the benefits of your product or service by all means, but let them make the final decision. Pleading or begging, or even too much boasting can really put a potential customer off.

VIDEO CONTENT CAN IMPROVE YOUR SEO EFFORTS

The wider the variety of content you put up on the web, the better your SEO will be. If you’re thinking of using a promo video, you should use your target keywords throughout your title, descriptions and Meta data in order to be found on the web. The more you do this, the quicker your customer will be able to find you.

The user experience is essential and if you incorporate a fun and interesting video into your website, then your viewers will be able to sit back, relax and enjoy your video as part of your website. They will learn quickly without putting forth very much effort and if you are lucky, they might even share it with their social networks.

One word of warning though, and that’s that your video should be only part of your marketing strategy. A well designed, functional and user-friendly website is vital to the success of your online marketing strategy, so you should never focus solely on your video, the content on your website and your website design are just as important, if not more so!
